HOW IT ALL WORKS

1. INITIAL CONSULTATION

The consultation stage is a key part of the process, as it sets the tone for the entire project. This is when the client shares their brief, lifestyle requirements, and overall style preferences, allowing me to build a clear understanding of their needs. Any inspirational imagery is always incredibly helpful at this stage.

Architects’ plans of the room(s) are a great advantage, but if these aren’t available, I’m very happy to take measurements during a follow up visit.

2. THE DESIGN PROCESS

After the initial consultation, and once I’ve gathered as much information as possible from the client, the design process begins.

I start by creating hand-drawn plans and furniture layouts for each space; whether it’s a kitchen, sitting room, or a child’s bedroom.

Once the layouts are drawn and approved by the client, I move on to developing the full scheme. This includes selecting paint colours, furniture (from bespoke fitted & free standing cabinetry, proposed antiques and ready made pieces), upholstery, fabrics, lighting, flooring, and window treatments - everything needed to bring the client’s brief to life within the space.

For kitchens, once a rough layout has been decided upon, they are developed into detailed CAD drawings. These include full layouts, precise measurements, elevations, and plumbing and electrical plans for the contractor to work from ahead of installation. Other bespoke cabinetry is also illustrated to scale with my hand-drawn visuals.

Once the initial designs are complete, I present the full scheme to the client.

KITCHENS AND BESPOKE CABINETRY

I work closely with an exceptional cabinet maker whose career spans more than 30 years. From my designs, he crafts beautiful bespoke pieces, from fitted furniture and vanity units to fully handmade kitchens; all created in his Somerset workshop and tailored precisely to my clients’ needs.

Each piece is made from solid wood, individually handcrafted and hand-painted, ensuring a truly unique finish. Every kitchen and item of furniture is designed specifically for its intended space, meaning no compromises are ever necessary.

UPHOLSTERY

My career in interior design began at Kingcome Sofas, where I gained a detailed understanding of the craftsmanship and internal construction of handmade sofas and armchairs.

I continue to work closely with one of my former colleagues from Kingcome, who now runs his own workshop in Devon. He creates beautifully upholstered, fully bespoke pieces made to order, combining both modern and traditional techniques. His work spans a wide range of styles, from clean contemporary designs to more classic, elegant pieces.
